Why I built this
I wanted the arcade hockey I grew up with — pick up, skate, hit, score — but with something to actually play for. So Hockeyium isn't just quick games against the AI; it's ranked online hockey where every win moves your ELO on a global ladder.
The tricky part of online multiplayer is trust. Hockeyium runs one true simulation on the server for every match, so nobody can rubber-band their skater or edit their rating — the same physics that run offline in your browser run online in a Cloudflare Durable Object. It's the hockey equivalent of a fair faceoff.

FAQ
What is Hockeyium?
A fast 2D arcade hockey game. Skate, aim with the cursor, body-check your rival, and score the most goals in a five-minute period. Play solo against the AI, or head online for ranked matches that move your ELO.
How does ranked multiplayer work?
Pick Solo (1v1), Duo (2v2), or Team (3v3) and we pair you with other players, first to five goals. Your result updates your PVP rating on the global leaderboard. If empty seats have to be filled with AI, that match plays as casual and doesn't change your rating.
Can I play with a friend?
Yes. Create a private match to get a 6-character code, or enter a friend's code to join theirs. It uses whichever mode you picked online.
Can the leaderboard be cheated?
No. Online play is server-authoritative — a Cloudflare Durable Object runs the one true simulation and streams it to every player. Only the server can change your rating, so there's nothing on your device to tamper with.
What are the fights?
Every fifth body check is a big hit, and big hits drop the gloves. A fight is a quick best-of-five: the game flashes a random key and you press it within 1.25 seconds. Win and you skate away with a speed and shot-power boost for ten seconds.
What can I play it on?
Hockeyium runs in the browser and as a native app on iPhone and Android (built with Capacitor). On phones, touch controls activate automatically — a left thumb-stick to skate and a right thumb-stick to aim, shoot, and check.
