Hooperium Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Hooperium helps people find a basketball game at a local court and keep an honest record of who won. This policy describes exactly what the app collects, why, and what happens when you delete your account. Hooperium is developed by Ethan Brown ("we", "us").

What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Apple or with Google. We store your email address and, where your provider supplies one, your display name. Your email identifies your account, is never shown to other players, and is never published to the app's public records. If you sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email", we only ever see the relay address.
Your player profile
A handle you choose, your city, your rating, games played, and any court crowns you hold. This profile is visible to other players — the whole point of the app is that someone can find you and challenge you to a game.
Your location
Only while you are using the app, and only to show nearby courts and to confirm you are actually at a court when you check in. Your location is used on your device to sort and filter courts. When you check in at a court, the fact that you are at that court is visible to other players until the check-in expires. We do not track your location in the background and we do not store a history of where you have been.
Bluetooth
Used only to confirm that you and your opponent are physically together before a match counts towards your rating. It exchanges a short code tied to that one match. No Bluetooth data is stored after the match starts, and Bluetooth is never used to identify you to anyone who is not in your game.
Your games
Matches you play, the scores both players reported, and the resulting rating changes. Matches are a shared record between the people who played them.
What we do not collect
We do not collect contacts, photos, health data, browsing activity, advertising identifiers, or device identifiers for tracking. We do not show ads. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Who can see what
- Email address — you and the app's operator. Never other players.
- Handle, city, rating, crowns — any signed-in player.
- That you are checked in at a court — any signed-in player, until the check-in expires.
- Matches and scores — the players in that match; ratings and court ladders are public.
- Your precise location — only your device, except as a court check-in.
Where it is stored
Hooperium uses Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging) on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. Data in transit is encrypted with standard HTTPS/TLS.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, a token identifying your device is stored so the app can tell you about challenges, score confirmations and results. Turning notifications off in Settings stops this.
Reporting and blocking
If you report a player or something they wrote, we store your report so it can be reviewed. Reports are private: the person you reported cannot see who filed it. Blocking is entirely your own — who you have blocked is stored on your account and is not visible to anyone else, including the person blocked.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete my account. This is permanent and there is no recovery.
Removed immediately: your profile and handle, your check-ins, your place in any session, your cosmetics, and your rating metadata. Your login is deleted, so you can no longer sign in.
Matches you played are kept, shown against "Deleted player". A match is a shared record: the other player's rating moved because of it, and a court's ladder recorded it. Erasing your side would silently rewrite their history — their win would disappear while the rating it earned them stayed. Keeping the game without keeping you is how both people get an honest record. Your deleted profile is removed from all leaderboards.
Children
Hooperium is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
