Builder leads, emailed when someone asks for a builder nearby

Community posts for builders range from a deck or small extension to a full renovation, and people often ask because they don't already have a builder lined up. These threads are early in the job, before quotes have come in from anyone, so a prompt and helpful reply can put you ahead of other builders who see the same post.

Builder leads: the posts we look for

  • Facebook groupWant to add a deck off the back of the house in Papakura, who builds these around here?
  • NeighbourlyLooking for a builder to quote a garage-to-living-space conversion in Tauranga.
  • RedditNeed a licensed building practitioner for a kitchen extension in Hamilton, any recommendations?
  • Job boardRenovating an old villa in Dunedin, need a builder who's done character homes before.

Examples of the kind of posts we look for, written for this page.

Which building jobs we send you

Jobs we watch for

  • Decks and outdoor structures. Standalone build jobs that often don't need a full design process.
  • Home extensions. Adding rooms or floor area, usually consented council work.
  • Renovations and villa work. Updating older homes, often needing experience with character buildings.
  • Garage conversions. Turning a garage into living space, a common community-group request.
  • General building quotes. Posts where someone just wants a builder to come and have a look.

Posts we leave out

  • How do I build a retaining wall myself. DIY project questions rather than a request to hire someone.
  • Selling leftover timber or building materials. Marketplace listings, not a job lead.
  • Consent and council process complaints. General venting about paperwork, not a request for a builder.

These are starting points. You tell us exactly what you want and what to skip.

How it works

01

Tell us your jobs and area

Fill in the form: the work you want, anything to leave out, and the towns or suburbs you cover.

02

The bot watches

It reads new posts in Facebook community groups, Neighbourly, Reddit and job boards for ones that match.

03

You get an email

Each match lands in your inbox with a link to the post, so you can reply straight away.

Winning building jobs from a post

  • Mention your Licensed Building Practitioner status. Bigger jobs usually need an LBP, so stating your licence class upfront answers the first question a poster has.
  • Ask about scope and timing before quoting a price. Builder jobs vary hugely in size, so a question about size and timeframe reads as more credible than a guessed number.
  • Offer to come and measure up rather than quote blind. Community posts rarely have enough detail to price accurately, so offering a free look shows you take the job seriously.

When building posts come up

Building enquiries often pick up over spring and summer when people are home more and can picture outdoor projects like decks, and again after school holidays when families plan renovations around downtime. Posts for weathertightness or storm repair work tend to spike after bad weather.

Builder leads questions

Will I get small jobs as well as full renovations?

Yes, posts range from a single deck or small outdoor job to a full renovation or extension. You can tell us if you only want jobs above a certain size or budget.

Can I exclude consented jobs if I only do small builds?

Yes. Email us what you don't want included, such as consented extensions or full renovations, and we will leave those posts out of your alerts from then on.

Do I need to be a Licensed Building Practitioner to sign up?

We don't check licensing before you sign up. You're responsible for only taking on building work within your scope and qualifications, the same responsibility you'd carry replying to any post yourself.

Can I set more than one town or region?

Yes. List all the towns, suburbs or regions you cover in your email and we will match posts across every one of them, and you can add more later.

How does the free trial work?

You add a card on Stripe’s secure checkout page, but nothing is charged for the first 14 days. After that it is $5 a month. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.

Do I need an Ethelium website?

No. Lead alerts work on their own. If you have a website plan with us you can add them to it from the plan builder.

Is there an app?

No app to install. Alerts arrive by email, so they work on any phone and you reply to the post from wherever you read it.
